HELP! RAM not up to speed

I just recently built my first PC and it's running very stable so far(haven't thrown games at it yet), but my memory seems to be defaulting to a very low frequency. The system sees all 16GB, but the speed is not near where it should be.

Windows 7 64 Pro
Asus Z97 Deluxe MB
Intel i7 - 4790K
EVGA GTX 980 FTW edition
Samsung 1TB EVO 850
Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR3 2133 16GB, 2x8/1.65v (CMD16GX3M2A2133C9)
CAS=9-11-11-31

I read the QVL list in the manual and it's there. I buy Dominator or vengeance memory, which has never given me trouble until now. I tried changing the speed in the bios to 2133 and it crashed the machine. A simple bios reset switch on the MB fixed the crash of course and it's been running fine at 1333. Honestly, I never overclock anything, but I am trying to get the speed that I paid for. So, I'm really not sure what I am doing when it comes to memory and getting this to function at the correct speed. That XMP toggle in the bios is off.....do I need that turned on to get faster speeds? Any other things I should be looking at in the bios?

Thanks!

Try enabling the XMP option. From what it sounds like, it is running at the SPD speed. Enabling the XMP should normally set the timings, voltage and frequency to what the kit is rated for.

I'm not sure if this was the fix, but I stumbled on a section in the bios that did a "auto-tune" and now 2133Mhz is working, but I don't know if it has really over clocked stuff. I did see that the memory running at 1333 was 1.5 in the volts, now at 2133 it's 1.65 volts. So that seems good. Here's some other quick main info on the current bios settings. Do these numbers look ok:

CPU
Frequency: 4000Mhz
Idle Temp: 30c
BCLK: 100.0 Mhz
VCore; 1.072v
Ratio: 40x

Memory
Frequency: 2133
Voltage: 1.662v

thanks again.....
