Will an Alienware N1000P PSU from 2009 work with a brand new motherboard?

It's not Haswell compatible and it's 6 years old time for a new one.

I'm not planning on buying it, I just have it lying around and want to put it to good use. What does being "Haswell compatible" mean for a PSU? Does it need to do more than just throw power into the right sockets?

It's an older model made by Delta so it's likely decent by 2009 standards. My gripe is that it only has a single 80mm fan to keep that monster cool so I don't know about long term durability.

I would get a good ~550w unit for that system. $60 will get you an 80 Plus Gold XFX. All XFX units are made by Seasonic.
