Does anyone know what the best graphics card for gaming would be for around $200, it can be new or used. So far ive looked at a gtx 650, r9 280x, or an r9 290 (used). Are there any other cards that i canget used that would perform better, preferably nvidia, i like the software and drivers their cards come with more.

GTX 650 and R9-290 are polar opposites in performance

If you can find a used R9-290 for around that and aren't afraid to risk it, sure. I mean you could get a new XFX R9-290 for about $250. Worth the extra money invested. Closer to $200 even would be an R9-280 for a new card. I'm sure you can find cheaper solutions on ebay or craigslist though.

As far as nvidia goes you'd only be able to average a GTX 960 for $200

Well it basically comes down to the 960 and the R9 280X. The 280x is mostly better in most games by a small margin (But in BF4 it destroys the 960 do to more Bits) however it uses around double the power and stays around 5C hotter under load. I prefer the 960, especially because the new 4 gb model is coming out while the 280X only has 3gb, but it's mainly your choice really, either one is fine.

the r9 280 is better than the 960.

I said that...

yeah but your saying the 280x only beats it by a fraction? the 280 beats the 280 the only thing the 960 beats the 280 and is by handling higher AA and resolutions and while the 280x crushes it,

The difference is not that big between the 280x and the 960: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_960_Gaming/17.html

It destroys the 960 in games like BF4, I'm not denying that, but in other games like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Far Cry 4, there is a 5-10 fps difference, nothing really too large. The 280X is better by a small amount and I would recommend it but I prefer the 960 do to its extremely low power consumption, great cooling, and large ocing potential.

the 960 is great but the 280x in overall is a better choice even over the 960 4gb, this is due to the 960 128 bit and slower gddr5

And that is what I said. The best part of the 280X is its 384 bit memory, which makes it shine in BF4. As I have stated many times the 280x is better, but the 960 (through my eyes) is better in other areas such as power consumption and cooling.

i dont know about the cooling part the 280x is very good in cooling and thats makes it great at overclocking.

Yea I'm just comparing it to the 960s which is slightly better (5-7C)
