A few months ago I purchased a refurbished laptop from Best Buy online. When the computer came, I simply started the computer and entered the product key. But a few days ago my computer caught some sort of virus so bad that the only solution was a system restore. The problem is, when I recieved the laptop, it did not come with the actual Windows 7 installation disk, just the product key. Now on the boot menu it asks that I instert the disk and enter the key. Does this mean I have to ho and spend another $100 - $200 on the OS even though it was included in my system? How can I fix this?

Solution
With a Windows 7 laptop, with a preinstalled OEM OS, you have four options.

1. Use the hopefully built in Factory Restore partition to restore back to factory settings
2. Use the still hopefully Restore partition to create a DVD set to reinstall from
3. Buy that DVD set from BestBuy or the manufacturer
4. Buy an original OS install.

5. Maybe wipe out all the virus infections. I would not hold out hope for this one, though.
