Hello TH community,

I come for help. I know very little about hardware like some of you geniuses and I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my GPU. The purpose is so I can play the new Battlefield game coming out this month. So let me give you the minimum and recommended specs of that game before I give you mine...

Minimum:
CPU: Athlon II/Phenom II 2.8 GHz, Intel Core i3/i5 2.4GHz
CPU Speed: Info
RAM: 4 GB
OS: WINDOWS VISTA SP2 64-BIT (with KB971512 Update)
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 (1 GB), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Free Disk Space: 60 GB

Recommended:
CPU: INTEL QUAD-CORE CPU, AMD SIX-CORE CPU
CPU Speed: Info
RAM: 8 GB
OS: WINDOWS 8 64-BIT (with KB971512 Update)
Video Card: AMD Radeon R9 290, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
Free Disk Space: 60 GB

Here are my specs:
Processor AMD A10-5700 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
Manufacturer AMD
Speed 3.4 GHz
Number of Cores 4

Video Card AMD Radeon HD 7660D
Manufacturer ATI
Chipset AMD Radeon HD 7660D
Dedicated Memory 1.0 GB
Total Memory 4.0 GB

Memory 8 GB installed but only 7.43 GB usable

Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

Power Supply 300W max at 25 degrees C and 260W max at 50 degrees C

I clear the minimum for everything but my video card. Could I get help finding a video card that will work for my PC? I know there's a list of the top video cards via price/performance, but I'm not sure if they will work with my power supply (I know that's been a problem for my PC in the past). To upgrade my maximum performance on the game, should I upgrade my power supply too? Could I get help with that as well, please? Or maybe I'm fine with my PSU and there's a great video card on the market that will work with it? I'm willing to pay a little extra for much greater performance.

Thank you TH community!

~Matt

Don't go for last gen 760/770 GPUs they have been superseded by the 9 series GPUS and are mostly cheaper and a lot more powerful. If you are on a tight budget I would look into a GTX 750ti as they go for about $120-130. Can play BF4 easy on medium/high settings at 60fps 1080p.

If you do want to spend more for ultra/max graphics buy a gtx 970 or a r9 290. Gonna put you back around $350-400 though! I recommend this:

Total: $174.98

I would go with a gtx 970. You will need to upgrade your power supply. But it is a necessary thing if you are looking to play the Battlefield game at max settings at 60 hz. The upgrade won't need to be that big because of maxwell's (the architecture of the 970 GPU) power efficiency.

Could you link me to a possible power supply that would work with the gtx 970 and my computer? And if you could link me something to that GPU too I'd appreciate that as well. Thanks for the help.

Well I'd like to run 60 FPS and stay under $200 with my total spending (GPU and PSU combined) if that's possible. If not I understand, though.

Edit: Jeez, I'm looking at the prices of some of these GPU's and they're like north of 350. I saw the list of top price/performance GPU's are they were like 70-120 bucks. Is that not enough for a game like this?

2nd Edit: Ok, I'm seeing the recommended video card for this game is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 and that's $210. How much would a PSU be that could go with that and work for my computer? And if I got the new NVIDIA GeFore 770 which is $350, how much is a new PSU going to be with that? And will it forsure work with my PC?

The reason I gave you a 550W GPU is if you wanted to upgrade your GPU to a high end on such as the 970 or r9 290.

Watch this guys video for BF Hardline, gtx 750ti and A8 processor! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpDEdw3GFpY
40-60fps on high is very good.

that's why i asked about budget :) it is easy to say "just get the best thing out there" an another to actually be able to afford it.

this is just a touch over $200 but solid parts. the r9-280 will game ay 1080p at high settings. may not maintain 60 fps in the newest aaa games but it will be solid. you'll be almost at recommended specs but well over the minimum. lots better than a 750ti will do.
