Your drive is not "okay." It is displaying the common signs of imminent failure from which the recovery will cost way more than a new drive. If you care about the data on your drive, you need to take immediate steps to recover what you can before it is lost. If your data is unimportant or easily replaceable then you can continue to try to use it.

Hello, azrath901!

I'd suggest to back up the data from your external drive as soon as possible! Afterwards, go to your HDD manufacturer's website and check for any available-for-download diagnostics utility that you could use to test the drive's health and S.M.A.R.T. data
If there's none, here's a thread with several HDD tool suggestions: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
While on the website, I'd recommend to see if your model is still within warranty - if it is, you should contact their tech support and ask if you could RMA the product and get a replacement.

Once you test it, let me know what is the result!

External drives are simple components with not a lot of replaceable parts. They usually include a normal SATA drive, a SATA to USB bridge, a case, and a cable. If this is the case, the case and usb adapter could be replaced by buying an external drive enclosure.

Some drives, however have the USB bridge built in. If that is the case then the only replaceable part is the cable.

The only other remotely probable cause of your problems could be the usb port on your computer.
