The fan extension card that comes with Asus motherboards, specifically in the case the X99 Deluxe has a cable that connect from the motherboard to the extension card. The connector doesn't look like its using normal fan pins. Does anyone know what they are called? A model number would be even better. The connector I am talking about is specifically the one in the green box in the picture below

Did it work?

That cable will not work for the ext_fan header. The pins are not as spaced out as that cable is expecting. The original cable uses a white connector that is meant for pins that are even smaller than the IDC type of pins. I am desperately looking to figure out the proper cable for this card. If anyone knows where I can get the right cable, I am very interested.

Yep, I found out the hard way. I'd really like to get my hands on this cable. I was able to get a card but can't find this cable anywhere - proprietary cables suck.

Sorry to wake up an old thread. Any news? I'm stumbling on the same problem right now and it sucks. I just Emailed Asus to see if they might have some lying around haha. I might just DIY it if it comes to that :/.

If you DIY it, I would love to know about it and help fund that project to get a cable for myself.

I found a 4-pin Female to Female cable for the time being, should arrive in the next few days. I am also in contact with Asus about this and no luck just yet. They said they are looking into seeing if they have that part for me to be able to purchase. I do not have much faith in that attempt.

I found this:
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/22535/ele-1279/VGA_Socket_Mini_Female_PH_Connector_-_5-Pin_20mm.html

Which is the only connector I have not tried buying yet. If you have the gear to make that into a cable, then give it a try and let me know. I would much rather buy the cable from someone thats made it and tested it than make my own.

Would the 4 pin to 4 pin work you reckon? And the header you posted actually looks the right size. at least the closest i've seen one. I'm in Australia so might take a few weeks to post one to me but i'll order one and update this thread once i find out if it works. Damn it's annoying of them to not sell any parts separate. Good luck~

the card works two ways.

1, using the 5-pin header you can use the ASUS software to control each of the fans connected and receive data from the sensors.
2. 4-pin connector, splits the PWM signal to all three fan connectors, only takes data back from the fan connected to fan header 1.

Both require the external power connector to be plugged in as well. I figured I might as well use it as a glorified splitter until I find the right cable.

I know they ship out that cable from NY. I am in PA. It may be worthwhile to spend the small amount to get the connectors to let you know if its gonna fit. I would hate for you to pay a lot for shipping such a small thing.

Let me know if the 4 pin works and where you bought it from. I just ordered the 5 pins from a place that had pretty good shipping rates (about 12$), so i'll let you know how that goes for me. Sounds like they would fit, i don't believe asus would proprietary the cables just to fuck with people and they probably just used there 5 pin GPU headers for it. The headers should arive in 8 days, i'll let you know when i've got it assembled and if it works!

Might have been able to find pin header connectors and formed them to a cable that will work but wondering if I connect the left most pin to the left most pin on the board or left most pin on MB to right most pin on card?

I would think left to right right to left, as in it'd be completely straight. Even then i'm shure it won't short anything.
Let us know if it works and if it does where/what kind of header it is.
Thanks.

Just letting you guys know, I will not stop until I get a cable. When I do, I will try and take some measurements of the size and stuff so we might be able to find the proper connector based on photos and specifications on websites so that we can make cables for those that need them.

I responded twice to that tweet, the most recent one includes a screenshot of the response I got. Only reason I am sticking with ASUS mobo for now is I just got it and it works, just not as well as I want it to. I am actively participating in as many giveaways for Mobos as I can though, if I win it will be bye bye Asus mobo's forever.
