One day I was checking the recording on my surveillance DVR over wifi and the recording stopped for about a couple seconds then comes back on after 25-30 seconds after the previous time frame.
For example the time is 10:45:35, it then would pause the frame for a couple of seconds stuck at that time then the recording would go back to normal but would be 25-30 seconds after the initial frame, so it would be 10:46:00. I would lose 25-30 seconds of recording not knowing what happened outside or inside the business.
I refreshed thinking it was because of wifi, but it stopped for 25-30 seconds at the same exact time frame again. I went over to the DVR and manually did playback of the recording and still the same thing, It records as usual and it stops for couple of seconds then I see it skip ahead 25-30 seconds. I didn't think much of it, but then it happened again today when I was going through the recording.

Any help would be appreciated, the DVR is a QSEE model(only a year old) and it happens to all cams. The DVR is in a nice cool dry place, never disturbed.
Do you think its a faulty HDD?
Should I install an aftermarket HDD?
What HDD would you recommend for surveillance?

Solution
It is possible that it is a HDD problem. Are the cameras connected via ethernet or coax?

WD and Seagate both make HDDs specifically intended for the DVR market. The Qsee hardware may have specific limitations on disks. You should check the manufacturer's recommendations for disks.

It's connected through coax cable.

The reason I asked about ethernet vs coax is that the hiccup could have been caused by a DHCP renewal. But since IP is not required for recording, I would think there is a bad area on the disk(s).
