Good day.

I need to know if my computer will allow me to use all 3TB's of my new WD30EFRX Hard drive

I know that only +- 2.7TB is usable because of the way HD manufacturers and Windows reports sizes. That is not the question here.

I need to know if i can just plug in the harddrive and use the full 2.7TB in one partition.

I hate having 100s of partitions and would really prefer too keep it 1 partition.

Do i need any special software?

Notes

It will not be my boot drive. Will probably be secondary as boot drive will be SSD

My motherboard is GA-H61M-USB3-B3

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

HD is WD30EFRX

Please tell me if there is any other info you need.

Hey Donovan2412. You will have no problem using the full capacity of the drive. Your motherboard supports 3TB+ drives (even booting) and the OS supports that kind of storage space as well. The only requirement is that the drive uses GPT instead of MBR for the OS to recognize drives larger than 2.2TB.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Do i manually have to set it to use GPT instead of MBR?

If so. When and how?

For arguments sake. Lets say i have Windows already installed on an SSD and have just bought the 3TB and now want begin using it. Its plugged in and everything.

Thanks :)
