Help! Laptop boots to a black screen & nothing shows in BIOS boot priority.

Hey everyone, I was hoping someone could help me today.

My windows 8.1 recently did a refresh of the C: drive and after it finished I booted and it went to black screen & sometimes just boots straight to the BIOS. When inspecting the BIOS boot priority I noticed it looked like this (wording is different etc)

I tried to put in a USB to see if it would recognize it and add it to the list, but it just ignored it and moved straight onto the black screen. I was thinking of making a windows 8.1 recovery disk and trying it in the Laptop, but I wasn't sure if it would even recognize it as the boot order is empty!

Can anyone help me get my Laptop working again?

When you say refresh do you mean you formatted the whole drive? What make and model laptop?
Under the advanced tab and sata configuration, does anything show up there?

You know a windows 8.1 file refresh like putting all the settings back etc.

And under sata my hard drive shows up, so I know its properly connected.

Oh, restore from a windows restore point?

Without knowing the make and model or having actual bios screenshots, I can't tell you exactly what to look for, but I would guess if the drive shows up in the bios, there is a field to edit with something like 'sata boot devices, boot priority etc etc' some variant of that which lets you choose the sata device from the list?

Have you tried the 'load defaults' option?
