[New Build] Having issues with old computer

I've posted on a few other sites looking for Canadian retailers that offer financing options for either parts or pre built machines (because at this point I'll stoop to pre-built.)

I've had very little luck, Dell (Alienware), or BestBuy/Futureshop credit card with financing on an ASUS G20 (not bad for the cost, definitely an option). I've stumbled across a third option though, Extreme-PC though I've never heard of them, wouldn't mind feedback if any of you have gone through them in the past.

My situation is this - my 6-7 year old PC is on it's way out. It's been good to me this far (general use is MMOs, games like Diablo 3, couple newer titles work somehow but nothing with very high GPU or CPU requirements. Most multiplat titles get played on the Xbox One for me so I haven't needed anything too beefy) but it's time for an upgrade, as the MOBO is starting to fail (I've noticed rust on the I/O connectors) and the GPU is a... well, Radeon HD 5770. With a dual core 2.2 Ghz Intel CPU. Yeah.

I'd hoped to save building a new PC until this summer when I get my bonus, it all depends if this old machine lasts that long; but a new option has opened, I got a $1.50/h raise at work which puts a bit more flexibility in what I can spend. So I think what it's time to do, is make a list of parts I can purchase each month and work my way towards this new PC.

I've upgraded a few things over the past year as is, so I have a head start. I've got a Corsair Air 240 MicroATX case (white if anybody is curious, looks spiffy), I have eight (EIGHT! Why did I buy eight?) nice, silent Corsair fans, new AIO water cooler for CPU (Antec Khooler or something?), nice 7 months old mechanical keyboard and mouse, as well as the absolute best display I have ever seen, no regrets (especially since 50% off boxing day.

So I have the case, fans, CPU cooler, mouse/keyboard, display, all within the past year. What I need is a MicroATX MOBO, a CPU, 8-16GB RAM, new SSD (as mine is years old and 40GB), new HDD, and GPU. My intention is, every two weeks buy one part (or put money aside to buy a larger ticket item) finishing with the GPU. My budget here is preferably below $600 not counting the GPU, which is the final purchase, and is up for debate - GTX 970, R9 290, don't know. Needs to be above 3GB GDDR5 though.

As far as color scheme I don't care, preferably either white or red.

Any thoughts?

You're not wrong, however considering I have some of the components already technically over two months I could get CPU/MOBO/RAM, use my current GPU and HDDs and upgrade as I go.
