hey guys so i'm at a bit of an impass on what gpu to upgrade to... I was looking at the gtx 970 but im not best with hardware so I'd like to get some opinions.
current specs:
intel i3 4130 3.40ghz
radeon 7850 2gb
corsair cx 600 psu
4gb ram
1tb hard drive
msi b85-g41 pc mate

btw the reason i only have 4gb ram is cause one of my sticks are defective.

my budget for new gpu is 350 but I also am wondering if my i3 will bottleneck? Thanks for the help!

You'll probably see a bottleneck on CPU heavy games. So, in the end, you need to upgrade both CPU and GPU to avoid bottlenecks.

In this case, I'd actually recommend you upgrade your CPU first. This is because CPU's "last longer", because CPU load does not increase as much as GPU load when new games come out. Thus, if you buy a GPU now and a CPU later, the GPU will become obsolete sooner than the CPU would be obsolete if you buy a CPU now and a GPU later. Hopefully that came across OK; I confused even myself writing that :p

For $210 or so, you could get a 4690, which is more than good enough for most gaming. No point in getting the 4690K, though, since your B85 motherboard won't let you overclock anyway. Later, when you save up some...

Later, when you save up some more, you can get whatever card is equivalent to the 970 (R9 380X or GTX 1070?), and you'll have a system with a 4690 and a card better than a 970, instead of a system with a 970 and a CPU marginally better than the 4690 (5690? :p).
