Solution
Hello Sgt
Have a look under the disk management tool on windows 7 you should be able to change the status of your hard drives. If this doesn't work try
fixing the issue through going into the bios when the computers is starting up by pressing F12 or delete. This will take you to where you can change the primary hard drive and configure other hard drives to be primary.

Well my main hdd is already configure this one I wanted to use as extra storage but I wanted it to be able to carry it to and from school. Now I'm worried if I take my ext hdd off that my system will error out. Under disk management do you know how I can do this?

Yes, it disconnected successful. I was so worried I might have made it permanent storage which I didn't want to do at all. But that's why it was kind of weird that it would show up as USB mass storage device just wouldn't give the option to eject, till I checked in the system tray right hand corner.
