Does this R9 290X support CrossFire?

Hello,

So recently, i saw an R9 290X with a great discount, i was interested more towards it. I have never got a successful multiple GPU setup so i have some questions.

First of all, i understand that a single powerful card is better then planning to buy 2 cards, but the R9 290X was once the toughest of AMD, and if i'm not mistaken, still the toughest single AMD card. It would be great to have one, when the time comes, i can buy another one if the prices ever go down again.

Anyway, to serious point, does this card support CrossFire? CrossFire, from what i understand, is the system which allows 2 or more AMD type graphics cards to work together. However, this card's description does not seem to have a 'CrossFire' label or something similar. Is it possible that it doesn't support another card?

On the other hand, CrossFire and CrossFireX are the same right? It does not require a 'more later motherboard' or anything correct? As i bought a motherboard that only supports CF and bought a NVIDIA GPU that does not support SLI. The Gigabyte GTX 650 Overclocked edition to be more precise.

Thank you for your time!

PS: This question is out of the topic, but if you can answer it, that'd be great. How great would it be to change from a GTX 650 OC to a R9 290X? I've never used an AMD card before but i don't think i should change my motherboard, and expensive processor just to get an SLI motherboard and get an SLI GPU.

Yes, you can crossfire it with another 290x. take a look at the AMD Crossfire compatibility chart on the official site for details: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Crossfire-Chart.aspx

Basically every card can be crossfired with itself.

To answer your additional question, the 290x is a good upgrade up from the 650, Motherboards must support either SLI or Crossfire or sometimes both to be able to use it. So changing out your board will depend on it.

*Just to be clear, they don't NEED to support both, but they sometimes do.

if u have an intel 2500K CPU or a FX8350 with a mild OC you're fine CPU WISE

GPU Hawaii aka R9 290/R9 290X support Xfire without the need of a bridge so yah that is that

also 2 of those in SLI will consume TONS OF POWER so u will need a PSU that can supply TONS OF POWER at least 850W with a system running a locked haswell I5 + 2 of those in xfire

if u have an AMD CPU get a 1KW PSU ... intel 850W minimum with little room for OC

imo just get 1 R9 290X dont Xfire it takes to much power by the time u Xfire the R9 380X will already be out

and as it seems AMD just want to empty the Hawaii Cards out so they can bring the R9 380X
