Which would be better with the r9 280x? The Pentium G3258 or the 13-4150? Is there another better processor for this price range? I know i5 is better, but I am on a tight budget. Thanks!

Edit: I feel it worth mentioning that this is not to be future proof. I will upgrade to a better CPU later, but for now I cannot afford it. So I am basically asking which one has better performance/dollar in modern games, such as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, or GTA V (if they ever finally release it on PC)

Solution
Not that bad, but As you have a powerful gpu compared to the Pentium, push all graphics settings/resoultion as far as you can, only lowering certain settings that affect cpu (Such as shadows in some games) This will give you a much more prettier game with same fps.
If you know how to overclock then I would get the G3258. Really ether way your going to replace the cpu with something better. I would just get the G3258 and when it doesn't do what you want it to do anymore then replace it with and i5.

Both are dual core processors, but the i3 has hyper threading, which I read that alot of games dont benefit from. I would just get the pentium and squirrel away your cash for an i5 later.

Uhm actually, only 1 game refuses to run on 2 threads, Dragon Age Inquisition, even though if it were allowed the Pentiums ipc could chew threw it. As most multi threaded games are actually 1 heavy single thread, with smaller threads alongside, this is why in games such as bf4 that are known to run on multi threads, the Pentium still can keep up with similar performance to the i3/i5 .

nope, not really if you ever plan on throwing in the i5/i7 later down road.

Look up the games you will be playing and their processor support. If all the games you want to play will run on 2 threads, then go for the G3258. I'm just saying that it is quite possible that it won't run some games in your library.

I'm never going to play that game, so I guess I'm good. Thank you for your help TNT27!

Just be sure not to run anything else in background while gaming as this will hurt performance of a 2 core
