Windows 95 installation from CD-ROM

I received the CD-ROM from which the Windows 95 OS was installed when I purchased a computer back in 1997.

QUESTION : Was the CD-ROM "disabled" by the original installation to prevent it being using again?

I need to use it to reinstall Windows 95 on a new hard drive soon. Can I use the CD-ROM I already have to do the installation?

Answer: No. That CD-ROM does not know or care how or when it was previously installed.

Question: Why do you need to use an almost 20 year old OS? What specific software do you have that requires Windows 95?

I have a hobby of rebuilding "old" computers, the latest of which has the Windows 95 operating system. I have some computers dating back almost 50 years, a few of which were homemade.

Maybe I'll donate them to a museum some day.

While you can still use the CD, the 95 CD was NOT bootable. You need to use a 95/98/ME boot floppy disk to partition, format, then run setup.
You can get the files needed to make the boot disks from bootdisk.com

wow. you know, i would love to one day do that, just drudge up some ancient pc and install Win95 or 98. i have a PC onto which i could install WinXP if i can find the CD+key, but that's kinda modern.
