Did I kill my motherboard? Computer won't boot-up after a connection change

I recently built my very first computer, which build went great till I decided to switch a fan connection over to the cpu fan connection and the whole computer shut-down. The computer at this point will not power-up, and am not sure if I had fried the motherboard, or done worse? I have already tried the paper clip trick with the PSU to try and rule it out, and the fans did power-up, but am still not sure if this rules it out, not sure what to do at this point and am looking for any help I can with this.

I'm currently working with a MSI Gaming Z97I Mini ITX, a Corsair RM 750 PSU, and an i7 4790K

Thanks!

Sorry, but yes, more than likely. I would under no circumstances plug anything into a header while your system is on. It's highly recommended to shutdown when doing anything inside your case.

Best case scenario it was only the board, but if you have a way, I'd check each component.
