For using multiple VMware clients is it better to have more cores/threads or stronger cores? I intend to use my gaming rig in a multi-boxing solution for an online game called Archeage. Ideally I'll have 1-2 VMware clients running in the background with the lowest possible graphic settings alongside my main ArcheAge client which will run with max settings. FYI Archeage is capable of using all 8 cores, but the question remains. For my situation will I benefit more from stronger cores or more cores?

My budget choices are the i5-4690k or the FX-8350/9590.

Current specs
GPU: R9 290 b4 edition
CPU: A10 7850k 4.2Ghz [Intend to swap this out]
Mobo: GA-F2A88X-UP4 [Intend to swap this out]
RAM:16Gb 2133Mhz Gskill sniper
OS: Windows 10
VMware OS: Windows 10
Storage 1: 120Gb SSD
Storage 2: 1TB Generic HDD 7200 RPM

Solution
That's a bit of a quandry, as games typically demand strong single-thread performance, but multiple VMs will benefit from multiple threads. In other words, the 4690K is generally better for gaming, but the 8350 will be better for VMs.

VMware uses processor threads as virtual processors, so a quad-thread processor will allow you to run a maximum of three VMs (at least one needs to be kept aside for the host machine).

I would avoid the 9590 entirely; you need a water cooler and specialist motherboard just to get started.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
