I have recently set my cpu to 4.20ghz in the bios, the weird thing is it shows that its running @ 3.50ghz and only uses 4.20ghz under load, how do i get it so that it runs constantly at 4.20ghz instead of 3.50ghz at startup.

What is showing it is only running at 3.5ghz?

Many programs only report the stock speed of the CPU you have to use something like CPU-Z to monitor the actual core speed.

Additionally your 3770K overclocked speed is dependent on the Intel features you leave enabled to accomplish your overclock, click on my CPU-Z validation.

Interesting CPU-Z validation you have there I would like to get a glimpse into the mentality behind buying a 4790K and under-clocking it down to 800mhz?

What's really curious to me is you're only giving it 0.7 volts and still running an idle 50c when you ran the CPU-Z validation?

What are you cooling it with a pinwheel?

It is hard to comprehend why anyone would invest what an i7-4790K costs and then under-clock it to 800mhz, Why?

If you did not want to run any faster than 800mhz why buy a stock clocked 4ghz CPU?

I find it very odd as when i used to look in system properties it says (i7-3770k cpu @3.50 GHz 4.20GHz) When it used to say (i7-3770k cpu @ 4.20ghz) i also checked cpu z and it confirms its running only at 3.50ghz so why does it now say it has both lol.

Your validation shows you're actually running at 4200 or a hair below it with good temperature!

If it is not staying there it will be either BIOS settings or temperature and temperature looks OK.

I am not familiar with MSI motherboard BIOS settings as it has been 5 years since I owned an MSI motherboard, but I can cross reference so what do you need to know?

Ok then i will leave it at that then. How did you manage to get yours to 5.0GHz
