I go to settings for virtual memory set my memory and select the usb drive, but when i restart, it just goes back to my hardisk c drive and not my usb memory stick
any ideas why?

The page file cannot be on removable media. This is by design.

USB is way too slow for virtual memory, that's why it can't be used.
