triple channel memory - how to upgrade the existing set-up?

hello all,

I have 4.5 old PC configuration (Gigabyte GA-X58A- UD3 with 1366 chipset, i7 3.06 quad cpu) in which I put at time 3 x 2 gb Corsair Dominator 1600mhz ram sticks, to work in triple channel mode. Now, I would want to upgrade the memory, but keeping the one I have.

Now, what would be the best way to go about it, having triple channel nature of the current setup in mind? I have three memory slots left free. If I add for example one more 8gb stick - will that diminish triple channel nature of the current three? Or will they still work as triple, and this one will be in single?

And if it does diminish triple channel, is that something to worry about - meaning it will still be faster with 8gb added? Or is triple channel worth keeping after all? And what if I add 3 x 4 gb more in three remaining slots - will each pair individually work in triple channel?

I need RAM mainly for intensive Photoshop, photo postprocessing usage.

Also, given I now have 1600mhz memory, should the memory I buy further also be at that frequency, or could also be higher or lower?

Thank you in advance, scratching my head way too much over this, would be very grateful for some guidance
