Is Noctua NH-C14 fan and Antec GX500 case a functional combination?

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and I hope I'll get help with some minor issues.

I'm planning a new computer to use both for gaming and for video-editing (up to 4K-resolutions among other things) and I want a computer to last for a long time without changing the CPU but only the RAM and GPU (and the fans).

Here's a screenshot of the components I'm planning to use (it's in Finnish, but I think you'll manage :p):

Now I would have liked to get the Noctua NH-D14, but that was too big for the case in question. But then I found the brilliant NH-C14. But here's the thing I'm worried about:

1) Because of the direction of the fans of the C14, will that change/destroy the airflow of the case and/or risk increasing the over all temperature in the case?

2) Will it be too cramped with the fans blowing towards the case-wall and mobo?

3) Will NH-C14 be enough for this processor? I'm not planning on overclocking (at least not within warranty-time) and so far I've managed to use my old Core2 Duo 2.83 Quad-core with stock fan for 6 years so a C14 should handle this CPU with ease, shouldn't it?

Reasons why I chose Antec GX500: 1) Cheap, 2) very good fan-options for the price, 3) spacious (apart from width) 4)I lilke the look of it (yeah, stupid reason, but whatever), 5) Form-factor is NOT full ATX = Not a monster to have in the room.

If you guys have any comments on the rest of the system, feel free to comment. E.g. I'm a little bit unsure about the mobo aswell; can I do SLI on this one all though it doesn't have two identical PCI-E-ports?

Glad for any suggestions and constructive comments and sorry for the long question.

here are the blueprints on the noctua C14 - noctua usually puts them at the bottom of the FAQ page for each product

as to "1) Because of the direction of the fans of the C14, will that change/destroy the airflow of the case and/or risk increasing the over all temperature in the case? " - no, it shouldn't but it will not be taking advantage of the existing airflow, and having to "pull" air from an airstream passing above might lose some efficiency. Excuse the crude drawing below, but it should serve - as the airflow breaks over the edge of the heat exchanger, it will suffer turbulence passing over that edge...

It should be fine.
1) The fan(s) will blow away from the motherboard if you mount them that way. The rear case fan (or the case's side vent) will exhaust heated air.

2) The height of the cooler is 130mm w/fan. The case is over 8" deep. I don't see any problem.

3) The stock cooler will be enough for that processor if you don't OC.

The only issue I can't address is which way you'll want to orient the cooler. That will depend on what is on the MB and the surrounding structures at the time of the build.

one other negative to that horizontal cooler, when / if you want to remove or change ram boards, you'll have to remove the cooler

antec sez maximum cpu cooler hgt for that case is 158mm
the noctua U12S would fit and be more efficient as well

here's a good performance comparison on most of the currently popular coolers

Hey thanks a lot clutchc and Ralph!

I really appreciate that you guys took the time to answer! And especially Ralph for his well elaborated answer. I have to say, that i really didn't understand the sketch you made, but that is probably my bad sense of perspective. :p

To the main point: I decided to go for the Noctua NH-U12S - super thanks for the suggestion, because it will cool enough for me. And the entire reason I'm going for noctua and not OC the CPU is for a more silent system (the stock fans are LOUD). The U12S does also fit higher RAM-modules which is great for my setup.

Here's my modified setup now. Does this look good/okay?

Thanks again!
