Hi,
Long story short i was looking cheap way to upgrade my memory and bought 2x2gb of DDR1066 to go with DDR2800 already installed in my system(bought from local classifieds). Ram works fine but sometimes my system freezes and reboots. Im suspecting the different frequency and/or voltage requirement for DDR2 1066
Both RAMS are exactly same brand CORSAIR XMS2

Following is the spec for DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) 5-5-5-18 Volt : 1.8
and this is the ram i put in to extend my memory
DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) 5-5-5-15 Volt : 2.1V

What Bios settings should i keep ( in terms of voltage, latency etc) so that my system can be more stable? right now both run on 800 MHZ everything else is on AUTO in BIOS.

Solution
download Memtest86+ and use this program to test the stability of the ram after setting the bios. http://www.memtest.org/

run both at: 800 MHz @ 5-5-5-18 and at 1.85v to start. Use above program to be sure it is stable. IF not increase voltage to 2.0V and retest.

any time you mix ram always run the higher timings to start with. the setts may turn out to be incompatible but testing would need to be done to determine that.

How do i change the timings. sorry i am really not so good when it comes to overclocking/chaning Ram settings. Also i tried to run Memtest from USB(bootable) but it didnt work? i heard memtest is only compatible with 32 bit computers?

memtest is compatible with all OS types including linx. I personally like to have it on a CD disk as i find it easier to use that way. In order to run memtest you need to set the removable media as the boot device this can usually be done from the Bios or hitting F8 durring the boot.

to change the timings you need to enter teh Bios by pressing F2 during the system splash screen right after pressing the power button. Inside the bios you will find the ram timing settings. All bios look different so I can not tell you exactly where to go.
