Faulty MSI Radeon R9 280X in need of advice

First off this card is no more than 1 year old from new. I bought it from a friend 4/5 months ago and I've used it with no issues in WoW raiding etc. I recently out of nowhere (While playing League of legends of all things) had screen flashing / tearing followed by graphics crashing and my screen going a solid colour often with black lines down it (while my pc is still powered, it isn't actually appearing to die, just my video?)

I tried running GPU stress tests and the second I hit 70 degrees celsius it crashes as I explained without exception.
I can probably get this warranty repaired direct with MSI? I tried to enquire about this today while I was at work but they don't even appear to have a UK technical support office, it's all online. I'd have to probably work out the purchase history from the original purchase to do so and it'll be a huge mess about. I'm frustrated as it is.

The question is really, has anyone had this? Is it something that I can fix or is it just the hardware that has developed a fault? Really appreciate any help troubleshooting or advising how I can deal with this, thanks.

It most likely is a fault that you will have to return to MSI. I found their online support to be very quick in responding. https://register.msi.com/

Try using furmark to test your GPU. If it causes crashes then it is most likely a faulty GPU but could also be a faulty PSU that is causing the PC to crash under load. http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

Thanks for your response. I'm glad I'm not being silly in my thinking. I'm just unsure if the card has been registered in my friend's name so i might have to get in touch with him over it first. Quite a pain. I work for a company that sells a lot of PC items and I know how bad some companies can be in terms of making you jump through hoops to get an RMA direct with a manufacturer but it has a three year warranty as far as I understand.

I used Furmark to test my GPU and that's how I determined the crashing at 70 degrees C. My power supply doesn't appear to be failing I don't think? My pc still appears to be powered fine even when my video crashes under a stress test etc. I was really hopeful there'd be a way to fix this or any further ways to determine if it's a hardware fault.
