I am basically stumbled, i have bought all my parts but the processor and i want to know is the i5 4690k capable of running a minecraft stream on twitch or bf4 or do i need a i7 4790k to do that. When streaming i don't really need lag. Also i will be recording once a day for around 10 minutes (for my YouTube channel) and i want to know is the i5 4690k capable of being able to live stream like the i7. Also i would want to know if the i5 4690k is capable of rendering 10 minute videos on Sony Vegas in a fairly decent time (6 minutes) and be able to game without lagging. Just saying if i go with the i5 it saves me from having to borrow money from my parents. Here is my build so far (just need to add the processor):
cooler master hyper 212 evo
asus r9 280x
corsair 8gb ram
corsair 600w power supply
msi z97 gaming 3 motherboard
pny 240gb ssd
wd blue 1tb hdd
corsair 200r

Thank you!

There are tweaks you can do with bf4 streaming, like using the AMD VCE codec of the GPU to severely reduce the CPU strain while streaming.
The i5 will do everything you require.

If you can afford the i7, get the i7... but know that you do NOT need it, especially if you plan to OC the i5.
I think considering bf4 won't even run on anything less than a quad core. Trying to run bf4 and other things on a quad core (i5) might be problematic. The hyper threading of the i7 might be what you need so things don't have to share process threads. I rarely recommend the i7, but I would here.

Like Andy_Man said. i7's are rarely needed for anything, but in this case you may need one. Last thing you want is to get the i5, and it doesnt add up to your expectations! Although the i5-5690k is basically the best i5 money can buy at the moment.

Ofcourse you can, but you mentioned bf4 a title that wants to use all 4 cores of the i5. So to run a streaming software, it will be timesharing a core with bf4. This is not the worst thing, processors can only do one thing at a time but timeshare lots of things your computer needs to do. They just do it so fast we usually do not notice. However, if one of the cores is responsible for recording, and bf4 running on it an i7 would help a lot by separating those and giving them each their own core. (Virtual core, but still a core)

What if i was to say that i can only afford an i5 4690k and wont be able to get the $100 for the i7 4790 for another month. Would i be able to record a game of minecraft with i5 4690k and not lag or do i need the i7 for that. Also would i be able to live stream with the i5 at 1080p or 720p without lagging on games like minecraft or do i need the i7 for that?

I think the i5 would be fine for this. Minecraft is not that graphic intensive.

Alright thanks. I just don't want to make the wrong decision because i am 13 years old and i have been saving for a gaming computer for the past 3 months. I have been selling candy at my school and made a good profit and i still am and in order to afford the i7 i will have to be selling for the next 3 weeks and i really want to have my gaming computer before spring break and that is why i was wondering if an i5 4690k can do what i need like record games, stream and render vids. The computer i have now is a $500 asus best buy computer and it renders a 10 minute video in 40 minutes and i just don't want my i5 to be that bad so that is why i am asking. If the i5 4690k is capable of producing a good quality minecraft stream then i would get it and i would be able to afford.

Depends on the program you use, some use cpu encoding some will use the encoder in your gpu, i think an i7 would be worth the investment if you intend to stream bf4 and other cpu intensive games while using cpu encoding.

Just for compairson see below:
On minecraft, i can record with OBS(cpu encoding) and play with minecraft with shaders and a texture pack with my i3 4370. Attempting to record Shadow of Mordor and play at the same time, i reach 100% cpu and lag with OBS.

What CPU/GPU and RAM size do you have in your other computer?

I have the i5 in question here, the answer is yes. Save yourself the money and get the 4670k. As mentioned above, titles like bf4 will be demanding on the cpu but will run without any problems. Minecraft is a low requirement game. Yes any i5 would be more than enough to run and stream minecraft.

My advice? Get the i5 save yourself the money and if u have extra to spend, buy a 290 or 290x, or a higher end case.

So i am going with the i5 4690k. I also record games with dxtory, and i have never live streamed before, my computer crashed 3 months ago and i havent played a pc game in a long time. I would probably live stream bf4 at 720p and minecraft at 1080p.Thanks everyone for responding.

I already bought all my computer parts except my processor so i cant return anything :/. Also my computer i have now has an amd apu 5500 processor and 8gb of the cheapest ram there is. Back then i didn't know much about computers.

i5 4690k and a 280x will be a HUGE improvement over an APU.
If that's what your coming from, I'm now positive the i5-4690k is what you're looking for.
