Hi all,

Could you guys help me telling in order of priority which parts of my computer should I change first and why please?

This is what I have:
(I know there're some things new and others too old)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 6790 series
Power Supply: Corsari GS600
Hard Disk: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB

After telling me the other of change, tell me please which new hardware would you buy.

Thanks so much!

What is your memory?
How much budget??

1. PSU - new parts, especially GPU, may require more power. If not, then keep it. I'd certainly replace it.
2. GPU - you will get some befit immediately, more as the rest of the system is upgraded.
3. CPU/Motherboard - need to be bought together, and perhaps new memory as well.
4. SSD for OS - 256 Gb

Thanks for answering Night Owl.

What you mean with memory?
I'm not sure about the budget, but I thought about buying some pieces that at least last 4-5 years minimum.

1. PSU: It's recently new, so I wouldn't expect to change it during the next 4 years at least. (I think 600W it's enough).
2. GPU: It's recenlty new also.
(When I said about the priority list for changing the parts, I referred of comparing between the old and the new parts of it. For example... some parts can't give their max. performance because there're other parts that cap the others performance.
3. RAM: Recently new too. I bought PSU, GPU & RAM at the same time.

I think I should consider to change CPU and Motherboard first of all, but I'm not sure about it. Also think that those 2 parts are too old, like... they have more than 6-7 years maybe, and that's why I can't get the max. performance of other parts.

What you think about it?

Thanks!

@Itsbrander97: Basically, gaming performance. (Not the ultimate graphic games, it's more about OnLine Games)
@DonkeyOatie: Can you be more especific please? What kind of memory?

Thanks all! :)

I'd agree with you that the CPU and Motherboard should be the first things you consider upgrading. An Athlon dual core just isn't going to cut it for upcoming games, as for the parts you should go for, it really depends on your budget.

Cheapest (yet still a good) option would be the FX 6300 alongside maybe the Asus M5a97 R2.0. You could also swap up to an FX 8320/8350 if you want to spend a little bit more, and perhaps go for the M5a99FX Pro R2.0 Mobo.

If you wanted to go for an intel build perhaps an i5 4590 with an MSI H97 Gaming 3 Mobo. (Go for the 4590k and a Z97 board if you want to overclock). All this really depends on how much you want to spend.

The other guy asking about your memory is referring to the RAM, as long as you have 8gb you really dont need to upgrade.
The GS600 power supply definitely does not need upgrading, doing so would just be a waste of money. The HD 6790 isn't going to give you amazing performance, even with the CPU upgrade, but should be decent enough to use until you can afford to replace it.

@DonkeyOatie: Kingston DDR2 800MHz (2x2GB) 1.8V DIMM.

@IrnMan: The AMD (cheapest ones) build raise to 200€ (CPU95€+MB105€), and the Intel (also the cheapest) raise to 315€ (CPU200€+MB115€).
Do this parts give the same level of performance? If the answer is yes, what does this price difference mean?
What would you get for those prices?
For how many years could I use those parts and the rest of my comp. until I'll need to change another part?

Thanks again all! ;)

P.S.: Sorry for english skill, it's so bad... T_T

Well for both of them you're going to need to get new RAM. Since you're not really doing anything demanding, I'd go with the AMD FX-6300 option. It'll run everything you need it to - but once you get into AAA modern games, the intel starts to shine even with the price difference.

The i5 4590 would give around the same overall performance as an FX 8350. The key difference between AMD and Intel CPU's is their single core performance, in which Intel is the clear winner. This means that in games which cannot utilise the 8 cores of the 8350 the Intel CPU will perform better. If longevity is what you are looking for then I'd pick between the AMD FX 8350 and the Intel 4590, hazarding a guess these will both probably provide around 3 years or so of acceptable performance. I'll also add that Intel CPU's generally use less power and produce less heat than their AMD counterparts, in case these factors are important to you.

Bear in mind that when you upgrade your CPU and Motherboard you will also need to upgrade to DDR3 RAM (4gb as a minimum, 8gb recommended).

There's not real way to get to where you want to go. The budget you have will get you a system that is mostly obsolete or worse from the time it is built.

You need a modern CPU and the FX6300 is the weakest I'd suggest for the many years you want; the G3258 I suggested was to your budget, and existing games. It's future is limited too. i3, i5, and FX8 series are all better in various ways. For FX, you need a good 970 motherboard as a minimum, for Intel you could save a bit with an H81 or Q85.

You should have 8Gb of RAM, but could live for a while with 1 x 4Gb DDR3-1600 CAS/CL 9 or less, planning to add a second stick later.
