When i turn on my desktop it shows the msi motherboard screen, then after that it doesnt go on to the login screen. Im guessing it's my harddrive because i had problems with it before. Sometimes it goes to preparing automic repair, then i can choose to troubleshoot etc... Also it says that my windows 8.1 driver is locked when i tried to refresh the pc. Also, to turn off my pc i usually need to hold the power button, but now i just touch it and it turns off. Whenever i turn on the pc it shows the msi screen then goes black. It might be because i need to update the bios but im not sure how im supposed to when i cant even get to the log in screen

Clear the CMOS either by jumper or removing the battery, and to see you can boot the PC or not.
If you can, and try the " Reset or Refresh Your PC " http://winsupersite.com/windows-8/windows-8-tip-reset-or-refresh-your-pc
If you can't boot, try bench it start with MB/cpu/CPU cooler/PSU http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1753671/bench-troubleshooting.html to find out which part has problem.
