So, this is a brand new PC that I just built. I Installed the mobo drivers from the disk, but I wanted to get the GPU drivers from AMDs website. My card is an r9 290. Downloaded AMD Catalyst Control center. Ran it. Clicked custom install because I didn't really want Gaming Evolved or whatever it's called. When I tried to install I got the error message. AMD catalyst software failed to load detection driver. Now, the installer is frozen with the overall progress bar filled and a bar filled under the message "Failed to detect system configuration." However, I can't cancel or close out the installer. Is this a common issue? I really am not sure what to do here.

Solution
No it`s not that common.

But what it can mean, and why it halts at installing the driver are a few things.
First of all, if the the mother board you have, has on board video.
Go into the bios and make sure that the first Primary video display is set to Pci-e as the interface mode.
If the option to have both the on board motherboard solution run in tandem with the R9 290 card.
Turn it to off, not left on auto or have once again on Pci-e enabled.

It can be a case that if both are enabled the Amd driver has a bit of a hissy fit.
So have a look in your bios.

The only other three things would be a corrupted driver download.
Or you forgot to plug all the required power to the mobo, or the top or side edge of your 290 card, as the driver...

Or you got the wrong driver, hop over to www.amd.com if you used the driver off the supplied CD with your card. There will be a more new driver for it on the website.
The reason why is because once the driver is installed or attempted the power consumption/draw changes of the graphics card. because before it your using the stock windows vga driver that does not enable all of the Gpu features of your 290 card ok.

so i checked and my primary display is pcie express, when i went into device manager I was able to uninstall the previous graphics drivers I had which must have been default. Deleted the catalyst folder from my program files folder. I tried to delete the entire AMD folder on my drive but I could not because a file in it is open in another program. Could this have anything to do with it? Like are there default drivers I need to uninstall before I install the new ones? Sorry if what I'm saying doesn't make a lot of sense.

To anyone who may still be interested I was able to fix the issue by uninstalling the drivers that were previously installed and deleting all amd and ati relating folders on my drive, than restarting. I believe my system had some kind of auto-detect driver function when I first booted (sorry I'm really not all that knowledgeable on this). After I restarted my computer and tried the auto-detect and install most recent drivers from AMD's website it still didn't work, but I manually detected the drivers and was able to install them successfully.
