Hello! I was wondering since I'm going to buy the FX-6300 soon. I'd like to know a little more about it.
If I OC the fx-6300 to 4.5 Ghz, will it be close to performance as the i5-4670k stock?

Is the i5-4670k faster at rendering a 720p video than an FX-6300?

Is the FX-6300 good for hosting small servers (I don't know, maybe Minecraft?)

Thanks!

Ok. Now we're on the same page. I was hoping your board supported the FX-6350 since it has more cache and is a better performer, but apparently it doesn't. It also doesn't show support for the 8320, but it shows support for the 8320E, which is weird since the 8320E is newer. I suppose it has to do with the TDP power requirements of the processor. That board doesn't support chips with a TDP above 95w which eliminates some CPU models from being used.

It seems the 6300 would be your best bet, but don't plan to overclocking it as that board is terrible when it comes to its power phase capabilities. I'd recommend you save and upgrade both the board and the CPU at some point. Getting an FX 6 core chip and running it at stock speeds is...

What about rendering? I'm just curious how *close* it can get to it, considering it's $100+ less.

Not well. If you're going to go with an AMD chip, go with an FX-8320 or 8350. I'd highly recommend something more suited to the job if you plan to do any serious rendering at all, like an E3 Xeon which processes 8 threads and has MUCH faster single core speeds. The E3 Xeon is the same as the i7 but with no integrated graphics, so you'd need an aftermarket GPU.

On a $100 budget hehe.. I have the Gigabyte-760g-S2P Rev 5, I believe it can support the 8320 but I don't understand the cpu support list that fully, so I'm playing it safe within my budget.

^^Definitely. If you're buying AMD only, go for the 8350.
Yeah, 6300 has higher price vs performance ratio than 4670, but in the long run 4670 has the upper hand. Not to mention it comes with a GPU which can perform some mid-range graphics applications, eliminating the need for a GPU.

Thanks, I appreciate the help with that.. It's boggled me for a while, I thought had the Revision 3 until I checked last night by opening my computer case and checking my mobo. I also plan on overclocking my cpu as far as it'll go since I have a Cooler Master 212 Evo.

GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P(rev 5.1), it's a little Micro-ATX blue motherboard.

I see now.. thank you for the info. I'll grab the cpu now, since it'll easily out perform my current Athlon. Then I'll try to get a new motherboard when possible. Thanks for the information, going to save me future confusion.
