Hey guys! So I'm making a budget build right now and I have an old hard drive from my old computer. I was wondering if I would be able to reuse it without much hassle so I would have more room in my budget. It's a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500 GB but before I took it out I didn't erase anything off of it.

Also for my build I was wondering which RAM is better between the G. Skill Ares and G. Skill Ripjaws.

Also, here is my current build. I plan to overclock it. And if I can reuse my harddrive I will take that out. As well as replace the RAM. I'm trying to keep the price as close to $400 as possible.

Yes you could. If the drive already has the operating system from your old computer on it but you don't want to reformat, you could install a new copy of Windows on another folder of the drive.

But if you're building a new computer, putting the OS and software on an SSD makes the computer much snappier. You could use the hard drive for just storage

Hmm alright well I'm wiping my whole hard drive right now. Will an old hard drive affect performance at all? Also, what about the ares vs. ripjaw for my 8gb of RAM?

Hard drive may be a bit slower than a new 4TB/6TB one but hard drives are slow, bottom line. Should be fine storing movies and stuff and games/large software if you run out of space on the SSD. Don't know about the RAM, haven't researched yet.
