Hi!,

A few months ago I bought this all-in-one water cooler for my CPU and TBH I don't see any noticeable drop in temps. Right now I'm using it all in stock settings (with a fix vcore and turbo boos disabled). I'm getting temps around 40Cs on idle, 50/60 when playing something that's somewhat CPU intensive like Star Wars: The Old Republic and then temps jump straight to 90 immediately after starting a stress test on Prime95.

How can I check that the H100i is working correctly? And I should probably remove it, clean it and try to reseat it, right?.

Solution

Dont use Prime95 unless you have version 26.6. Any later version will give you unrealistic high temps and you risk damaging your chip.
Use Aida64, Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, or OCCT to stress your CPU. I personally use Aida64, and Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.

Do you have your case fans plugged into the motherboard?
Do you have your power...

This is what the Corsair Link is showing. The pump seems to be running though there are bunch of sensors showing 0... dunno what that's about but the main ones are working. Ignore the OCZ temp.

Do you have your power settings set to "balanced"?
Are those temps all while the computer is at idle?
Have you thought of setting up a custom fan profile for your 970, to run it cooler at idle?

Oh, didn't know that about Prime95. I was using version 28.

Downloaded and ran a quick 5 minutes stress test with IXT and temps stayed at 69-71. I think it is still high on stock settings and without turbo boosts enabled but it's a lot better than the 90ish Prime was reporting.

Case fans are plugged to the motherboard.
In the motherboard control software I have two fans (intake on the front and exhaust on the back) set to full at all times. The 2 on the left sidepanel are off until around ~50Cs then start ramping up. The 2 fans connected to the H100I also have a custom profile.
Mostly idle. Chrome and an IRC chat were open.
I have a custom profile but I just noticed it got screwed up when I installed a second card last night. It's set to keep the fans at 60% at all time then ramp up slowly as it heats.

Wayy better. Temps seem to be in check at full load, how are idle temps looking after running Intel XTU?

Do you know if you have your computer set to "balanced" in the power options? Setting the computer to high performance will cause the CPU to run at max frequency all of the time (thus higher heat at idle). Balanced mode will allow Intel Speedstep technology to lower the frequency at idle and during low load scenarios.

Also, if your fans are being controlled by the motherboard, you can tidy up Corsair Link by deleting the components that aren't registering, or are being controlled by another program.

They go from 69/72 down to 50 almost immediately then keep dropping slower but steady to the 39/42 I'm seeing at the moment (not completely idle since chrome and Spotify are open).

It was set to high performance. I honestly completely forgot about that setting since this isn't a laptop.

Should I still go with reseating the cooler or are these temps closer to expected on somewhat-idle and stock?.

I would assume that everything will be fine now. The thermal paste pre-applied to the H100i is awesome stuff. After stress testing my CPU @ 4.4ghz (Same as 4790k stock turbo boost) while having high performance power options turned on, idle temps were around 38-40C, until switching back to "balanced".

Something good to do would be to set everything back to stock settings within the bios, and try again with the computer power options set to "balanced"

Ill be on for a few more hours today, so just keep my posted on this forum.
