AMD vs INTEL for gaming

The i3-4160 is quite competitive as is the fx6300/6350. Both are well under your cap but I'm not sure what their prices would be in the UK. The i5-4690K would be an amazing CPU but I think that's right above your limit. AMD's eight core units are extremely niche and I wouldn't really recommend them for general purpose gaming / computing.

It looks like your probably not a professional gamer, so when your looking at a CPU it's not going to matter which is better. Honestly your not going to notice a huge difference, but I would say go with Intel because they continue to research and develop new silicone all the time. AMD has not developed any cutting edge CPU's since 2003. I don't think this should much matter to you in any application you should use, but to me if they are too lazy to develop something other than what they have and have had for a long time I get bored! I think a good GPU would be more significant. Go with the Intel i3 CPU.

Gaming in general doesn't require many cores to run smoothly so I'd suggest going with Intel over AMD as they are considered to have a better per core performance. If you could raise your budget a bit by simply saving for a while it would be well worth the wait because an i5-4690K is ideal for gaming. Otherwise the closest thing to your budget would be an i5-4590 which is not strictly speaking overclockable so it's a tough decision.
EDIT: I've just been informed that the i5-4590 is 10 bucks above your budget - give or take a few.
