So I was trying to install the driver to my steelseries apex keyboard and during the installation the computer blue screened with a kernel inpage error.

The computer restarted into automatic repair and unsurprisingly it failed. Rebooted and it kept doing this over and over again, however I was able to boot into my other partition with vista on it.

Vista successfully booted and I immediately went to my computer: the windows 8.1 partition was nowhere to be found, looked in disk management, it was classified as "free space" but I saw a blank entry in the disk management and it said "EISA configuration".

Is my windows 8.1 install gone?

Get rid of the DUAL boot and perform a clean install of 8.

I have legacy programs that only work on vista and not 8.1

Anyways, I fixed it by installing minitool partition wizard and doing a partition recovery on my vista partition.
Immediately found and brought back my windows 8 partition with ease and it acts just like it did before... after it made me do a chkdsk of course.
