Guys..i am a bit confused...Micorsoft is saying that direct x 12 will "decrease cpu overhead" implying (according to them) that you shall get better framerates on a weaker cpu....also...they are saying that direct x 12 shall increase cpu scaling in games...that game devs can finally take advantage of hex-cored or octa-cored cpus...so then an i7 should give better performance than an i5 when direct x 12 comes out?

yes it should as long as the developers make it to do so all of the features that they are talking about have to actually be implemented but the potential is definitely there. Basically what dx12 does is it allows the cores of the cpu to independently talk to the gpu cores not relying on one core at a time greatly increasing what it can get done. But regardless its up to the dev to do it.

Only in games that use the DX12 features. Most games made the way games are done today will not benefit much. A lot of games require very little CPU power, so the limit of performance is usually the graphics card. DX12 will definitely help in higher end games that do use a lot of CPU, though, like RTS games with a lot of AI, games with a lot of physics like Crysis, and so forth.

In general, I wouldn't put too much thought into it. If the details are too confusing, just rest assured that Mantle/DX12/Vulkan will make your hardware run better, essentially for free. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me :D

Thank you for the response..so i guess its not bad news .there is no reason for an i5 to perform as well as an i7 extreme in games...if game devs can take advantage of more than 4 cores of a cpu then it would be great....and by the way..i see your pc specs are listed...how did you do that?
