So i currently own 1 tb seagate baracuda which i use to store my movies, tvshows, animes, etc but recently i'm running out of space.
so, i searched for hdd online i read that seagate has reduced their warranty period to 1yr and are no more the best company for hdd and now people are recommending WD caviar.
Now, the problem is that WD has many colours-green,blue,black and even purple!......
i googled them and got some general idea but i'm not sure which one to buy......i'm currently thinking about the purple one as it is optimized for 24x7 time and is for 'Surveillance'.....it means storing Surveillance videos right? so i'm also gonna store videos(movies, tvshows, etc) so should i buy that ? anyway i wrote too much extra......any advice as to which one should i go with=green or purple or black or blue?

Solution
If you need 2+ TB then go for a Black or Green.

Green will slower than a Black/Blue, a Black will be faster than Green/Blue

Blue goes to 1TB

Green up to 6TB

Black up to 4TB

Red up to 6TB

Seagate isn't bad, WD seems to be better but you might want to look at Seagate options.

Green - Low power / low energy

Blue - Normal desktop/laptop use.

Black - Premium desktop/laptop drive. Slightly faster than blue and more reliable. 5-yr warranty

Red - NAS and file server optimised. Designed to run 24-7.

Purple - For use in CCTV recording systems. Not really designed to run an OS.

Velociraptor - For high end Workstations. Performance orientated. Spins at 10k RPM. I love these drives but they are damn expensive.

... then we go into enterprise class drives.

Just go with Blue/Black for your situation.

PS.
Personally I don't have any issues with Seagate.

thanks everyone(can only pick 1 sol.), i have decided to go with 3tb green as it is cost efficient and i'm gonna use it as secondary storage(movies, etc not installing programs)
