New GTX 980 matrix temps 80•c onload + high clock & memory at idle

Hello guys. I just bought my GTX 980 matrix platinum & find my temperature on load at around 79-80•c & even hit 86.
Scrolling through GPU tweak i noticed that at idle,the clock speed is constantly at 1000mhz & GPU memory is constantly maxed at 7012.

I was previously using an ASUS GTX 780 direct cuii & temps in this rig was 65•c.

I have not oc'd it.
Also I have tried reinstalling drivers using different softwares & benchmarks & checked gpu z & all show the same temps etc.

As I have mentioned I haven't had problem with previous GPU & as far as I'm aware this GPU should hold around the same temps.
Please any urgent help appreciated as I don't know whether im supposed to send it back? Thanks in advance.

NZXT h440

ASUS Maximus vII hero

Corsair ax 760 psu

I7 4770k

Antec 650 kuhler AIO

32gb corsair vengeance pro 2133mhz

ASUS rog GTX 980 matrix platinum

Ssd sandisk extreme II 250 gb
1tb Western digital hard drive

250 gb hard drive WD

1000mhz idle is ok, but temps are way too high. did you check if the fans and cooling of the card works properly? it can be a faulty fan or faulty cooling system( possible RMA) it should run around 65-70C..
Even if your case is small and bad airflow you shouldn't go over 75C

Hi thanks for response. I noticed that at first the fans ramped up so high after install & wouldn't go down even out of game. This was while playing a game so I exited it because it was so noisy.it did stop now however I don't think fans are changing speed much they sound the same during during gaming & the same after exiting.
Also is the memory maxed out at idle also normal?

Yes your memory/core speeds are normal i think the fans/cooling system is faulty. you could check fan speed idle and while gaming with msi afterburner.

just to compare: my gtx 980 gigabyte wf3 is 1117/7012 core/mem speed on idle and like 1350/7012 while gaming.( gpu boost 2.0) my temps: 40C idle and around 60-65C while gaming.
