I am following these videos for instruction when using liquid ultra for CM Nepton 280l.

I intend to use it for a 5930k.

I like the method in video 1 the most, but for my specific processor + nepton 280l, I am not sure how thick or how spread I want the paste.

I would prefer an application with the same spread and thickness as in video one, what do you guys think?

Also, is it necessary to remove the CPU from the motherboard to apply the paste, as long as you are careful applying it? There is a lot of space so currently I assume it is not a problem, and I intend to use the pensel

Solution
You *must* install the heatsink while the processor is mounted on the motherboard. It is the only way to make sure there is enough pressure on the connection between the processor and the heatsink to effect efficient heat transfer.

The paste is purely intended to fill small (microscopic?) irregularities in the surface of the heatsink and processor die to improve contact. I usually put a very thin, even layer over the entire processor die by placing a small drop of thermal material and then smoothing it with the edge of an old credit card.

Be very careful, if you put too much it will squeeze out and land on the socket where you really don't want it, especially if it is electrically conductive. A small quantity really means a small...
