Hi everyone. I am interested in upgrading the video card on my computer. I recently tried to play Homeworld Remastered and it wouldn't let me because I couldn't update the OpenGL on my video card. I am looking to spend $200-$300. I built my computer about 5 years ago, so it is time for an upgrade. My system specs are:

Power: 650W
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4850
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
Memory: 2 x 2 gigs DDR2
Case: Enermax UberChakra

I really appreciate any help that y'all would be willing to provide. I know my system is pretty dated now, and while I do plan on tearing it apart and doing a full rebuild sometime next year, right now I'm looking for something that will just get the job done.

Well, it says that I need OpenGL 3.3, but even after trying to update my driver and installing the newest Catalyst and whatnot I can only get up to version 1.2. Without that it seems to just crash the game...so, I figured that maybe my video card was unable to support that.

Open GL is a function of the graphics card firmware and the driver. You say you TRIED to update the driver. Did it fail? If so, try this. Use DDU to uninstall the current driver from Safe Mode: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/550192/geforce-drivers/display-driver-uninstaller-ddu-v12-9-3-4-released-06-09-14-/
(It doesn't matter that it is on the Nvidia website. It works with all drivers)

Then download the latest driver for your card & OS and install it. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
(use the manual update)
