So I had a prebuilt PC from HP that used a i7 3770 processor, some crap RAM, and a single 2TB HDD. Long story short, I had an extra case laying around so I took out the guts of the HP and put them inside my Corsair Carbide 540 Air case. I upgraded the RAM, threw on a GTX 750 Ti SC vid card, added a "real" CPU cooler and called it a day. Oh! hence the title of this thread, the sub-par microATX Pegatron motherboard got replaced with a Z77 Extreme 4 mobo to connect all this to.

Now to the problem.. Everything is physically connected just fine, the OS boots, I update ALL the drivers from ASRock website, some of the utilities that I wanted, the BIOS 2.90 update, and the Nvidia video driver..Restart. Everything runs excellent. Everything looks just like it did before the transfer. A few days go by and I use CTRL+ALT+DEL to check out my resource monitor and this is where the problem starts. I select Start Task Manager and the screen pops-up; however the only thing I can see on it are the 2 columns for "task" and "status" with nothing listed. There are no "minimize", "maximize", "close" buttons at the top-right of the screen either. No "File" "Options" "View" or "Help" and no Tabs to choose. The only buttons available to me are at the bottom.. the traditional End Task, Switch To, and New Task. This screen is practically blank. Weird..

At first, I decided there was an issue in the OS; obviously because "Task Manager". I checked out my USB device drivers and re-installed those (hotkeys from keyboard issues maybe?), re-installed the Chipset drivers, heck I re-installed EVERY driver and the 2.90 version BIOS update. Still I get the same problem after rebooting. Everything else seems fine except Task Manager, I can't find any other problems or differences. I have contacted ASRock tech support, and I am still waiting on a reply. Does anybody have any experience or ideas/solutions for this?

when you rebuilt your pc did you wipe the hard drive and install new copy of windows..a lot of time hp and dell add bloat ware to there windows image and if you try and reuse the drive without reloading windows sometimes some parts of windows can act strange.

So, the USB thumbdrive is pointless. It finally noticed the Thumbdrive, but once I opened it and tried to paste the PrntScrn, it said the device is no longer in a location on the PC even though I could back out of there and access the drive again from My Computer.. Obviously there are some USB driver issues, but I wonder what other problems have occured??

Also, under Properties of My Computer, at the bottom where Windows Activation is: It tells me I have 2 days until automatic activation. Activate Windows now. There is a product key already there(the original) but once I select activate windows, it tells me the key is invalid for activation. Is this because I am not connected to internet?
