Hello everyone,
I built my computer about five years ago and I'm looking for an upgrade.

Here are the specs of my old computer. If things can be re-used that would be wonderful. If there are things that can be used but something needs to be done to them first, I would also like to have that information. If nothing can be re-used, not that big of a deal.

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7 GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Coolmaster Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM
Storage:Western DIgital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0 GB/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: MSI R7870 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC Radeon HD 7870 Ghz Edition
Case: Cool Master HAF 912
Power Supply: Corsair Builder Series CX600 V2 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply
Operating System: Win 7

For a New Computer:
Approximate Purchase Date: In a few months
Approximate Budget: $600-900
Here are the things I would like a computer to be able to perform adequately:

o PC / Emulator Gaming (Looking for good graphics card)
o Recording without lag (Gameplay footage)
o Sound Recording (Looking for decent sound card)
o Rendering Video Footage (CPU)
o Adequate Memory
o Be able to support multiple monitors (Probably just 2)

Here's what I've thrown together. It's a bit closer to the high end of your budget, but it will certainly last you another good 5 years. I went ahead and made room for an i7. I figure the hyper-threading will make mincemeat of your rendering tasks as well as keep up with just about anything that you throw at it. I've been quite happy with my 4770k since I got it at release. My upgrade was from an aging beast as well, and the change was night and day. The only thing I could not find room for was a SSD. You could pick up a 120 GB MX100 from Crucial for a little more than the drive I picked, but I personally found my sweet spot for SSDs at 250 GB. I know a lot of people that use far less than 120 GB ssds, but it's just not for me. Anyhow...

What parts did you want to carry over? From the looks of it, mainly just the case would be carried over. I personally don't like re-using older power supplies. And you said you wanted to upgrade your graphics so that's out.

Looks like you can keep the case, if you wanted to, the cooler, and the hard drive. You could also carry over windows 7 if you don't mind the hassle that microsoft gives when you want your key revalidated.

There are definitely a lot of things you can reuse in this build! The processor and motherboard for one. I would upgrade the ram. You should probably get 8GB. The PSU is fine, OS is good, case is good, I would upgrade the GPU to an GTX 970 or so. Then for the sound card I would get this: http://www.amazon.com/Blaster-Performance-Headphone-Forming-Microphone/dp/B009ISU33E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1425872052&sr=8-3&keywords=sound+card

Then GPU get this: http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-970-4G-Graphics/dp/B00NN0GEXQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1425872090&sr=1-4&keywords=gtx+970

Also keep the same CPU cooler and maybe get an SSD for storage: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1425872190&sr=1-1&keywords=ssd

BTW: Don't mind the pricetag on that sound card, it has tons and tons of great reviews from people who record music and for gaming channels.

EDIT: Sorry I just realized I selected the 960 instead of the 970 that I thought I clicked. The 7870 actually does a smidge better than a 960. Let me fix that up.

EDIT: The 970 actually puts you a good bit over budget. The 290 would be your next best option and that would be about 70 bucks over budget. AND the sale on the XFX psu at newegg just ended at midnight.
