Ok let me start off saying this is not a CPU problem, it's kind of false advertising lol. The cpu has finally reached a temperature I don't like. I know that so called temperature is not correct on AMD cpus, but here is the thing.... When I first bought the CPU and up until about a year ago, it would ONLY max out at around 48c!!!!!!!!! I have a hyper 212, I know I should only be maxing this cpu out at 48-52c because I used to run prime95 and only max out at 55c. Now, 2 years later, multiple bios updates and rollbacks, no ram issues, no gpu or anything else issues, I maxed out (for the first time) at 64c playing this game that's in beta. but also my max temps went up in all of my games. WHAT could be the issue? GPU stays at temps it's ALWAYS ran at, only the CPU is acting like this. Motherboard issue?????????????? I'm not saying this issue is new, but it is bothersome. I noticed that after one windows 8 (i know, i know) update, it SEEMS like that is what caused it around a year ago. Could windows have done this??? Please before answering, read everything and ponder.

Edit: Also, I do not throttle or have unnecessary frame drops in my games, nor have I EVER BSOD'd, not even today when it hit 64c.

core temp and HW monitor. Core temp says it's 2c lower sometimes

FX-8350 with hyper 212
GTX 660ti 3gb SC
2 enermax fans on the hyper 212 push pull
Asrock 970 extreme 4
2 huge coolermaster fans one in top and one in front and a smaller one in the back of the CM Storm case.
Corsair CX750m PSU
1 Tbyte hdd
and a ssd
oh and 1600 crucial ballistix ram.

I still IDLE low, but MAX temp got higher. Right now Im idling around 13c with internet use. wont go lower at the temp it is over here. it's about 64f to 74f in my house. Core temp and HW monitor both read exact idle of 13c.

Yeah I agree. Try using MSI Afterburner to fiddle about with a fan profile, that can help. Also clean out your components, with a brush or vacuum cleaner. I HIGHLY doubt that windows 8 would have done it.

Well I just reset the Hyper 212... I feel so stupid.... I haven't tested long enough but bios says 50c and won't go any higher. I had it running in bios for a good 30 mins. The nuts that held the whole 212 onto motherboard was loose AND I had some old oozing thermal paste tht was burnt (not a lot at all) from the last time I set the 212 on CPU. it's STILL idling at 13, BUT it hasn't had any larger spikes like it did before. I will try Overdrive and afterburner and get back to you guys. Oh and IDK what you guys keep saying about it not being colder than ambient, the cool air makes a vortex inside the case, fans cool air down obviously, and thus you get a cooler CPU. Also it's cooler air over here right now so it's bound to get a little colder when the air wizes through the case. ALSO I have my own power saving settings. It only uses the power I need at the right times, unlike windows generic settings which have MORE spikes in temp.

Oh and now that the 212 is nice and tight, it dropped another 2c.

I will NEVER use AMD overdrive again... NOW I remember why I don't use it now. It's say's thermal margin for each core is anywhere from 43 to 51 idling.... I think I have MOBO issues, unless I have no clue what I'm talking about because I don't use AMD overdrive ;), but that's what it says!

Edit: If AMD overdrive is saying my cores are 43 to 50 something idling, it is giving wrong readings. Never once have I been throttled and never once have I bsod'd and I would have if I really had those readings. Something is wrong. I noticed my target voltage is 1.3375 but it goes well past that to 1.4250, whats that all about? not very familiar with overclocking aka voltages and shit.

Played a game.... My cpu maxed out at 55c. This game blasted my temp up to 50c by the time I got into the main menu. But I played a full match and it only got to 55c. That temp is VERY good for me.

Update: Well i played a good hour of MIDDED skyrim... It would usually reach 60, but now Im at 55c. Its pretty good.

yea I idle the exact same as I was before, 13c. I just noticed you have a Duke picture... We still play online, there is actually a pretty big fanbase. Not as big as doom.

Amd overdrive is the right tool to use - you're reading the thermal limit wrongly mate.
That thermal limit works backwards - 55c shown there means you have that much clear temperature headroom before you hit thermal throttling limits.
50c idle is very very good ,under full prime load that temp will drop - anything 15c & above is a very good temp under stress testing.
Overdrive is pretty much the most reliable software reading you'll ever get .

Ah thanks, I have NEVER seen a program which does it backwards, thats cool to know. re download lol. Yea I also get the same temp on HW monitor if you flipped it lol.
