Hey,

My dad had a hard drive that I am trying to get files off. I think that the input is broken and when I plug it in nothing happens but when I jiggle the cord around the green light comes on and I am feel the hard drive whirl but nothing appears on the computer at all. Have tried on multiple on multiple computers and have nothing. It is an iomega hard drive and there are important files and photos on it from before he passed away.

Hey there, salmonindoubt!

My condolences! :(
Unfortunately, it seems like the drive is severely damaged and it seems like the damage is physical.
You should first test the drive's health and check the S.M.A.R.T. status using a diagnostics utility. If there isn't such a tool on your HDD manufacturer's website, I'd suggest to check this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
I'd also recommend getting in touch with a professional data recovery company, I think they will be able to recover most, if not all of it.
You can still try using a third-party recovery software though: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/291895-32-best-data-recovery-software

Keep me posted!

Thanks heaps. Tried the SMART and that didnt work. I can't seem to get anything off it at all because nothing will read it. I think that I will have to get the professionals to look at it.

Will let you know how it goes.
