I have bought a new DDR3 8GB Corsair RAM for a laptop. When i bought it home to unbox, i noticed that it is an old batch from the year 2010. 5 year old memory module it is. I'm sure that there has to be a shelf life for the semiconductor products. Should i return it or use it?

I concur.

If the packaging is in perfectly good condition and looks pristine, then there is no reason to return it.

There are still DEC computers manufactured in the 1970s in use today. Somehow I'm sure that the memory that you purchased will be just fine.

Just when i thought that i got a satisfactory answer for my question your comment pops up and it again drags me into the field of confusion. Why would you say so? Support your comment with some reason/logic.

I fully support the others' advice that used RAM is still good, so go for it if it looks good to you.
But, that's no reason to use it when you paid full price for it. If someone charges you full price for a used item, that's cheating. If you got it for a reduced price as it's a used item, then use it, no problem.

I don't remember the OP saying it was used.

OP - Don't get confused nor worry for a bit Shelf Life is not a variable when we are talking about RAM. Ever wonder why they have a Lifetime warranty? because they tend to last for a very long time :)

You have a point there. 2010 batch does not imply it's a used product. It's improbable, but not impossible.
Let me clarify - I am not talking about Corsair when I say the seller cheated, but I'm talking about online sites where this kind of things could happen.

Also, I don't have any grudge against Corsair - I have a few Corsair products planned for my next build, and I am using a Corsair DDR3L 8GB laptop RAM module in my own laptop from which I'm typing this post.

Oh I totally understand where you are coming from and I know that you were referring to the seller, not Corsair. I'm sure Asim would appreciate that heads up as well.

I'm simply basing my responses from Asim's initial inquiry regarding RAM shelf life and less on the RAM being used or not. He probably would have mentioned if he is suspecting the RAM being used/open box and if that is something that he needs to be concerned about.
