FPS Drops Almost Every Game

Hey!

I've been playing many different games now like: Arma 3, DayZ, LoL, Wolfenstein ET (hell yeah!) and i have FPS issues in almost every game i play.

Example: normal FPS in Arma is ~30-40fps and then bam! drops to ~5-10fps for about 5-10 second and then goes back to 30-40fps. I've searched something about this from google, and i think issue is my CPU. But i have tried to overclock it, but didn't help much (probably nothing).

So any advice's to get my FPS going stable?

PC Specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8120 (3.1-3.5Ghz) i have different cooler for it.
GPU: ASUS GTX 670 (Base clock)
Some Asus motherboard (dont remember it now)
8GB Ram 1600Mhz
250gb SSD & 1TB HDD
Windows 7 Ultimate

Thanks already for any help!

Solution
Hi all ;)
Got your pm luco.

The boards throttling simply because you're running a 125w 8 core - these boards are a-ok for any 100w chip (fx6100/6300)
A turbocored 8 core will push it over the edge - while it may up core 0 to the boost speed it will drop the rest.
Keeping turbo off in bios is the best idea if you want to run 8 cores ,re-enable cool & quiet (its not at fault here) & also disable c6 states - its a waste of time & will throttle the CPU under heavy load.
While the 212 is a superb cooler it removes secondary Cooling from the vrm area which is bad on a board that has no vrm sinks.

If you're after better performance per core then really your best option is dropping 2 cores in bios to turn your chip into a 6 core .
While this...

I second this. Download Open HW Monitor and report back with "max" CPU temperatures while gaming. Overclocking does not help in your situation, actually it most likely makes things *worse* (more heating, more voltage).

This specific CPU is designed not to work over 61C, so if you are at this or above temperature, you need to:

- check whether the CPU fan is spinning
- clean the cooler from dust
- reapply thermal paste

If nothing helps, get a better cooler.

Well, maybe my answer wasn't correct ;)
Try blowing out the dust, but if you do re-apply thermal paste then make sure you do this the right way. Because there;s many ways to do this but only a few ways to do this correct.

I have cleaned whole PC 3 days ago, didnt help. Thermal paste i have never changed, but I did read that it's not necessary to change them. I might be wrong. While gaming CPU temperature is around ~57C but under 60C.

Did it happen again while you were testing? I am asking because this temp is fine, and if it did happen, this means something else is the culprit. But if it didn't, you might need to test more. Maybe half an hour or so, until you see the issue and then report back the temp again.

I have Cooler Master Hyper 212, and I have read that it's possible to overclock my cpu up to 4ghz with this cooler. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well... There is overclocking possibilities in BIOS, so are you sure about it ? This might be very stupid question, but I'm not very good with these :D

So there is nothing to do? I just have to play with these FPS drops and deal with it, without spending any money ?

Case is Antec Three Hundred Two, I haven't changed any coolers.

Ok so all you're using is the two exhaust fans that came in the case, you haven't added any intake fans at all? The default setup on that case (one rear exhaust one top exhaust) isn't very good for cooling really. I suggest you monitor your motherboard temperatures to see if any of the sensors are getting hot under load

Yeah I havent added anything to that case. Here are some screenshots about temps :

I played about 40 minutes League of Legends, and PC is running about 2 hours now. Graphics are at high, FPS around ~100-120 and then it suddenly drops down to ~30fps (just like in any other game fps drops over half).

Edit: Also here's screenshot whats CPU-Z says about my CPU :

(so i was wondering about that core speed)

1st, undo your overclocking. Load default settings

Which BIOS version is your on your board? (never flash in windows!) update in BIOS with USB thumb drive

check temps with prim95 (smallfft) + coretemp -> does the frequency of the 8120 drop while testing? test for about 10minutes

furmark (burnin) temperature after 10min?

3dmark (firestrike) do basic benchmark and post the link which comes up in the end of it

benchmark with tool "as ssd" do a screenshot of it, upload to any imagehoster and post the link

Could u please tell me again what I need to download ? I didn't understand a shit :D. Well yea I can undo my "overclocks", but I didn't understand that "Which BIOS version is your on your board? (never flash in windows!) update in BIOS with USB thumb drive". Is temperature checking ok with HWMonitor ?
