Processor compatible with motherboard?

I am thinking of buying a new processor but is it compatible with my mother board?
Current Precessor:amd athlon 64 processor 3500+
Motherboard: Hp dx2255 MT (GL753PA)
The processor i am planning is AMD 3.5 AM3+ FX 6-Core Edition FX-6300 (FD6300WMHKBOX)

Considering the age of the system, better off building from scratch. It will be very hard to find CPU's that fit your motherboard exactly.

We are talking full upgrade here not only motherboard since you will need new ram as well at minimum. Being a micro tower does not make the upgrade any easier.

You have a HP prebuild in a micro tower with an old AM2 socketed motherboard. The only place you will find an upgrade is try to find a used cpu on ebay. Honestly though, this system is not worth spending money on. Even if you were to upgrade it to its full potential, you are still going to have an old slow computer that will struggle to run modern software. Time for a new PC I'm afraid.

The Intel is better for gaming, you will need a new PSU since your PSU is only 250 watts

A 6 core AMD processor is inferior to a 4 core Intel processor for gaming. More cores does not always mean better performance in every situation You really need to look at a complete new build, including case and PSU if you are building with gaming in mind. Take that old HP, the WHOLE thing, and recycle it at your local waste disposal location.

Yes that is correct, theoretically it is big enough to run your GTX750 but not all 450watt PSU's are created equal and some do not deliver what they promise.

So i checked and i have a ATX P4 Power Supply JIL 2414G
Is that okay for my system?

It is really old design and only has 19 amps or 228watts on the + 12 volt rail where the power is needed today, I would replace it with a new modern unit.
