Hello
At the moment I've been playing DayZ with my friend who has a alienware x51
http://www.dell.com/uk/p/alienware-x51-r2/pd?oc=d00ar259&model_id=alienware-x51-r2.
And when i ask him what settings he's running on he says everything on max at 50 fps and i'm getting 20 with everything on max. Also my computers nearly the double the amount of that alienware. Also on minecraft i have 25 mods and glsl shaders ultra and it's like 30 fps and my friend says he gets the same. Also i don't think my friends lying as he was prepared to show me in a video.

My specs
CPU:I7-4790k 4.00GhZ
GPU:Msi GTX 970 4GB
RAM:16GB corsair vengence ram 1600Mhz
HDD:1TB Seagate 7200RPM hard drive
Motherboard:Gigabyte Z97M-DS3H

Solution
It's just probably that your friend with the X51 is measuring differently, like max fps. It makes no sense otherwise, since your machine is clearly running properly, and DayZ is known to dip to 20's regularly even on high end machines.

Without meaning disrespect, unless something is wrong in your system I think your friend is lying. The best configuration I could see on that website is an i5-4460 with a 750 Ti, which should be destroyed by your 4790K and 970. Either your friend is not running at max settings, or he's running at a lower resolution, or again maybe we need to figure out why your system is running slow.

So how would i find out if it's a problem with my system.

Do all other games run fine? Have you noticed any stuttering in any other game? Maybe check temperatures while gaming to see if there is any throttling. I really doubt that would be the issue, though. It's more likely your friend is just using some reduced settings in DayZ.

Well before i posted a youtube video of me doing a video of benchmark valley and i just ran it and got round about the same fps and i have been having trouble with temperature.

What is running at 80C, the GPU or the CPU? The CPU running at 80C is not terrible, specially if you overclock to 4.3GHz (although we could do better). If the CPU is running at 80C, we need to check what's wrong, since the 970 is not known to reach those temperatures normally. Perhaps your fan configuration is not exhausting hot air properly.

Also i don't understand how i'm not getting like 300 fps in a vanilla minecraft like i used to.

Yes, you should test your machine using DayZ, and check the temperatures while running it. That may help us figure out the issue.

Minecraft is not a very demanding game; it is easy to run vanilla Minecraft at extremely high FPS on high end machines. Since you are getting 300FPS, though, I wouldn't worry much about it; it seems the issue is in DayZ only. Do you have any other games we can also test?

I have The forest which is a beautiful looking game.

We can also use that to test. How well does that run? Do you have any recent AAA titles? Those tend to try to use a lot of flashy graphics, so they will let us see if there is an issue with your graphics card underperforming.

I don't know what the forest runs at but it about above 60 FPS i'd say.And i do have some recent AAA titles like Metro 2033 Redux but it's not installed currently but when i did run it i remember i ran it just a bit below Ultra. Can you recommend any CPU temp moniters as i already have a GPU one as it's MSI afterburner.

I've got one I'll test DayZ now on Ultra.

I think Afterburner can also monitor CPU temperature. Try looking at the options.

It looks like only DayZ is causing you issues, though. It is known to be a very unstable game, so that's not surprising. Maybe lower some settings to get better performance? I really doubt your friends machine can run it much better if it does have the specs listed on the website you linked.

My temperature while playing dayz on max out settings
GPU:Min:35C Max:78C
CPU:Min:36C Max:72C
And i was in Berizino get round about 19-31

I was planning on getting a new cooler for my cpu like this:http://www.amazon.co.uk/ARCTIC-Freezer-Xtreme-Rev-Double-Sided/dp/B001X017G2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425940095&sr=8-1&keywords=lga1150+cooler

That sounds a bit high, but it does not sound terrible by any means. I doubt temperatures are the issue. What settings are you running the game at?

My cpu has quiet a loud noise to it but planning on changing it and the gpu is quite as hell!
I'm running dayz all max settings everything.

If possible, try re-installing. That may help solve any issues.

Another thing to consider, though, is that DayZ runs on an engine known to run terribly at certain points. Dropping to 20fps regularly is common, even on high end systems like this. Perhaps your friend was referring to framerate at other points, not the extreme minimums.

Do you think overclocking would of had anything to do with this?
