Hello guys
I have two questions

1) will gtx 970 work on xfx xtr 550 watt PSU
2) to what extent can the GPu be overcloaked with this psu
(should I wait for AMD 300series - will it be as power efficient as nvidia)

My pc specs
Intel i5 2310
Intel dh67bl motherboard
8 gb corsair ram (1.5v)
1 tb HDD
xfx xtr 550w 80 gold PSU
cabinet - corsair spec 1
MSI gtx 970

Solution
Yes the XFX XTR 550W psu is enough for a GTX 970 build.
Overclocking will depend on your card but it should overclock at least 1300mhz base clock.
For 1080p I would hold onto your GTX 970 since it is enough for now. All the R9 300 series are speculation right now and will be released around June later this year.

It's more than enough for your specs with a 970.

8Gb ram should be fine for now. SSD will improve loading times but not frames.
