980 is extremely overkill unless you're going with 1440p.

Here, I decided to give you a $550-600 PC.

As long as you're not playing Far Cry 4 or Dragon Age, that CPU shouldn't bottleneck in most titles. Though I'd be careful with that case; as I've seen some people talking about the power button being a bit sticky at times, and the plastic can be a bit cheap.

EDIT: I'd like to point out some problems about having the 980 and the system being cheap. For you to have the 980, you'd have to balance out the system and at least hit $1000 so that you can have a CPU that won't bottleneck it. It requires more PSU power and such also.

You could get a better PSU or case, but considering you want cheap, they'll do the job.
(I have never tested any of these parts, and I can therefore never guarantee no faults.)

The Asus Strix version especially is great. Still overkill unless going 1440p, but it's pretty dang good. Have you considered the r9 290?
