HI All,

I just put together a system, (built it at home) and when I booted it up I only see a BLACK screen.

I am unable to get to the BIOS as keyboard (ps2 & usb) does not work. I have taken a working keyboard from another older pc and tried but the outcome is the same.

Fans for the case, cpu work. DVD player works( tray opens and closes)... but does not read.....
....no display, so I am not sure.

I have checked the installation several times, by checking and double checking with the
ASRock manual.

I have checked compatibility of parts with PC part picker and found that they are OK. However, the pcpartpicker website shows the 1GB graphics card when I have the 2 GB.

The graphics card is in the PCIE2 slot and not does not have any power cable attached to it. Should it?

I am unsure if 1 stick of RAM is an issue?

Please help. I do not know how to move ahead with solving the problem(s).

The parts are:-

  • Case - Thermaltake V4 Black Edition - ATX with a 500W PSU (from Thermaltake too)

    Motherboard - ASRock 970 Extreme4 (AM3+)

Chip - AMD FX 6300, 3.G5Hz with 14MB Cache (total)

    RAM - Kingston Hyper X (Blue) DDR3 1600 - 8GB (single stick)

    Graphics - Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GT 610 2048MB DDR3

    HDD - Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA 3

    DVD - Pioneer BR/ Dvd

    Thank you.

    zzann

Hi,
I'm Davis from ASRock HQ TSD.
I will take care about this forum from now on.

About this symptom, we provide few ways for you to verify.
1.Please refer below link to clear CMOS and load BIOS default setting. http:// (see P.30 in user manual)
2.Please only install the necessary devices(CPU, fan, one memory, power, VGA card) for narrowing problem.
3.Please install one memory to every DIMM for try.
4.Please install VGA card to every slots for verify.
5.If you have another CPU, memory or VGA card, please change them for verify.
If the symptom still exist, please provide the Debug code(LED) on the motherboard to us for further checking.

Hi xbizzaroz

I have tried that. I moved the RAM from slot 1 to 2 and then back again. No change.

Hi,
I have tried slots 3 & 4 - No change

Will try Slots 3 and 4 and see how it goes.

Thanks.
zzann

Hi Outlander_04,

Sorry to all for the late replies, I can only get back to this forum much later in the day.
The LED light s do not come on as they should. I have thought of moving the connectors from 'Panel 1 ' to another set. Hope that works.

Hi Davis,

I will try your suggestions as you have asked. Will have to get back to you as I have to get back to the day time
pass-the-time stuff. :)

Thank you to both of you.

I have the 24pin ATX power connector connected to the MB.
Is the other power lead the ATX 12V Power connector?
The power supply is also a Thermaltake 500W PSU.

With regard to your earlier post - there is nothing appearing on the display, even after changing the leads to the other panel.....zzann

HI Davis,

Done as you have asked. Please see the following below.

1. I have done the 'Clear CMOS'. .... I do not know how to load Bios.
2. only cpu, cpu fan, case fan, one memory, power to MB only ( other devices disconnected - HDD & dvd player), VGA connected to MB- no supply required.
3. Moved the single stick of Ram to every slot....No change each time
4. Moved VGA card to other PCI Express 2 x 16 slot (PCIE2).... no change.
5. No other compatible CPU, memory or VGA card to change around with.

There is no code on the display after each trial and its reboot.

From point 1 - How to load BIOS without vga display?.

.....zzann

There is a 24 pin connector , and there is also an 8 pin connector located near the processor socket . The power supply should have that 8 pin connector , maybe on a cable that has a square 4 pn connector

Hi, zzann.
Thanks for your feedback.

According to the information you gave us, the debug code(LED) is not showing anything.
Please check whether the fan or HDD are running when you boot up.
If not, please re-install power supply or change another one for try.
If the symptom still exist, please refer below link to contact local distributor or dealer for further physical checking.

Thanks a lot !!
