The last system I built for myself was in 2006. I've been wanting to put together a new rig for about 3 years now, but I didn't want to put together something that was going to be a POS in a matter of a year or two, so I sorta forced myself to wait until I had the proper funds. I'll take a look at hardware every once in a while, but I'm not exactly an enthusiast. So, needless to say, it took a bit of catching up to get acquainted with the latest innovations. That said, I'm looking at a few options for this new setup, but it'd be really cool to have advice or input from those more in the know than myself. (Which is probably a large percentage of people on here)
I'm mainly going to be using this for gaming and general entertainment (streaming and the like), and I was looking at the Monoprice CrystalPro 4k, as well as the BenQ XL2420G for a new monitor. Is it better to go with the 1440p with higher resolution UHD and the bigger screen but 60hz, or G-sync for gaming? Or is there another model entirely that I'm missing that someone can suggest?
In general, if anyone can give advice/sample builds across the board on current gaming rig components, that'd be great, too. I really don't have much of an upper limit on cost, per se, but I'd like to keep it around $4000-$4500 or so. I've always built middle-of-the-road rigs, and finally getting the chance to basically get whatever I want, I'd like to make wise choices so I can build something that's future-proof for a while. My last setup lasted me around 8 years, so I know I don't make BAD decisions, it's just that my last "leap" was from CRT to flat screen, and when GPUs had 512MB at best, and there seem to be more variables for a lot of common components, now.
At any rate, thanks for taking the time to read and/or reply!
Also: I jumped right off of the article for the Monoprice CrystalPro to make a post, and I'm thinking that one is in the wrong forum, but I don't see an option to delete it. (Searching, it says you can under "full edit" mode, but I'm still not seeing the option. And I don't want to be ignorant and litter the review comments board with irrelevant junk.
